Microchip to use CAN FD protocol IP core by Kvaser

Microchip Technology Inc. will be using Kvaser’s CAN FD (Flexible Data-Rate) protocol implementation.

Microchip will be integrating Kvaser’s CAN and CAN FD IP in future controller products destined for automotive and industrial applications. Kvaser benefits from Microchip’s extensive integration expertise and test capabilities.
Furthermore, Kvaser will be offering their CAN FD IP and FPGA implementations to other non-strategic partners.

Kvaser’s CAN FD block has been designed with the following features:

  • Small size
  • Low-latency DMA
  • Highly configurable
  • Status updates in the data stream
  • Easy integration

This IP implementation supports CAN FD bit-rates up to 13 Mbit/s with 40MHz clock frequency.
The IP block is delivered with a system bus interface for easy integration, though it is also possible to use simply the internal core logic without buffers and with a simple interface to achieve minimal frame size.
